Aussie Rules Football

Picture
The sport of Australian Football, or Aussie Rules as it is also known, is over 150 years old.  It was initially introduced in Australia as a mixture of Rugby and Gaelic Football and from 1858 it emerged into a distinctive code of its own.

For sustained running, punctuated by frenetic one-on-one contests, high leaping and body-on-body contact, it is undoubtedly the best spectator sport in the world.  The game is a way of life in Australia.  It is undoubtedly the biggest and most vocal spectator sport in the country, and while it has its power base in Victoria, it is played in every state and territory, commanding tremendous media attention.

Dubai Dingoes participates in numerous Aussie Rules tournaments throughout the Middle East and Asia, including:

AFL Middle East League: In 2008/2009 we joined the newly established AFL Middle East League, which is fully endorsed by the AFL in Melbourne. The league now has teams from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain.  Please click here for full details of 2009/2010 AFL Middle East games.

Dubai AFL 9’s tournament:
Each year Dubai Dingoes hosts this 9-a-side AFL competition over one weekend, with teams from across the Gulf competing for the Dubai Cup.

ANZAC Cup: The first ANZAC cup was played in Doha in 2008, marking the first match of AFL played in Qatar.  The match is now held annually as close as possible to ANZAC Day and marks a great event for the Australian and New Zealand expatriate community.

Bali Masters: Each year we participate in the Bali 9's Masters AFL Tournament for our players who are 35 years and older.  The tournament has grown in popularity each year and teams now attend from across Asia and the Middle East.
